Disneyland Park
is a theme park located in Anaheim,
California. It is owned and
operated by the Walt
Disney Parks
and Resorts division of The Walt Disney Company. This theme park is known
as Disneyland
when it was opened on July 17, 1955. It is still generally referred to by that
name, it is the only theme park to be designed and built under the direct
supervision of Walt Disney.
Walt Disney came up with the concept of Disneyland after visiting
various amusement parks with his daughters in the 1930s and 1940s.Walt Disney had a vision. There would
be a place where children and parents could have fun together. The original
plans for the park were only on 8 acres of land next to the Burbank studios where his employees and
families could go to relax. The World War II put those plans on hold. During
the war, Walt Disney had time to
come up with new ideas and thoughts to create his magical park.
After hiring a consultant to help
decide an appropriate site for his project, Walt Disney bought a 160-acre site near Anaheim in 1953. Walt Disney did not have enough money constructed this park alone.
So, he turned to a Television program for his financial support. Walt Disney's
“Disneyland"
television series offered an indication of the future project. This brought the
idea of Disneyland
into reality for Walt Disney and the
American people. The construction for Disneyland was begun on July 21, 1954.
Disneyland has a larger
collective attendance than any other theme park in the world, with close to 600
million guests since it opened. More people have walked through Disneyland's turnstile entries then any other park in the
world. In 2011, the park hosted around 16.14 million guests, making it the
second most visited park in the world that calendar year.
Walt Disney wasn't able to see how his theme park and his company
prospered and grew into the 21st Century. His legacy still lives on with us.
Throughout Disneyland and throughout the entire world, he
will always be there with us.
